Keep your stone inkstones and incense burners looking beautiful for generations. Learn the do’s and don’ts of caring for natural Nishan stone.
Cleaning an Incense Burner
After use, let the burner cool down completely. Do not pour cold water into a hot stone censer, as the rapid temperature change can cause the stone to crack. Use a soft brush or dry cloth to wipe away the ash. If there is resin build-up from incense, use a small amount of warm water and a soft cloth, then dry immediately.
Maintaining an Inkstone
Never leave ink to dry in the well. It can stain the porous surface of the stone. Rinse with clean water after each use. Every few months, you can “feed” the stone by applying a tiny drop of camellia oil. Let it sit for a few hours, then wipe it off.
Environmental Factors
Keep your stone objects away from direct sunlight and extreme heat. If you live in a humid climate like Malaysia or Singapore, ensure the room is well-ventilated to prevent mold from growing on the wooden boxes or the stone itself.
